Rangana Minesh by the age of 20 years leads a pleasant life having obtained a good job, vehicles and lands through sheer efforts of his own

Rangana at the Graduation

“Rangana has bought a land for constructing a house out of the money earned by his job. Now his goal is to put up his own house soon”.

At least 3 ½ years will have to be spent for a software engineer to be produced through a university of this country. But the length of this period is determined according to the number of days the university remains open. Given this situation, how fortunate it is if anyone could become a software engineer by the time he/she is 20 years of age?

A person who becomes a software engineer by that early age has time for studying and doing many things in the future.
Rangana Minesh too who accepted such a challenge carved out for him the fortune of becoming a software engineer at the age of 20 years.
Born in Hanwella, Rangana now lives with his mother and younger brother.  Having joined the Rajasinghe Vidyalaya, Hanwella, Rangana carried out his studies there only up to the G.C.E. O/L.
Having finished his school education, Rangana first entered  Wijeya Graphics  to pursue his professional education.
But because of his keen desire to study JAVA he got himself admitted to IJTS. Normally the majority of the student population in this country launch into professional education only after completing the GCE A/L. In launching into Government of private sector employment very often GCE A/L is an entry requirement. In such a context ending school education  with the GCE O/L alone  and launching into professional education is a risky proposition. Why did Rangana accept such a challenge?

His reply was as follows:  Once when I was on my way home, the bus broke down at ‘Tummulla”. I saw the billboard displayed at the entrance to the main office of IJTS at Tunmulla. After that it occurred to me that, given the desire I have for studying JAVA, I would be able to go forward if I join this institution.

I contacted IJTS using the telephone number mentioned in the billboard.
By the time this happened I had completed the GCE O/L examination and two months after  beginning the GCE A/L. When I told my father that I did not want to do the GCE A/L but  want to do JAVA, he did not like to take that risk. But because of my desire my father spoke about it with Sir Ishanta. It was because of the confidence Sir Ishanta created in my father about IJTS after explaining to him about it, that I was able to attend IJTS when other students went for the GCE A/L class.

Accordingly Rangana joined the IJTS. Later, that is, in 2008 he completed his degree as a Software Engineer. He has followed courses such as the PCJT, SCJP, AJD, Mobile, WCD at IJTS. Having successfully completed his courses served at IJTS  for about four months.

During this time Rangana experienced a very sad incident. His father died suddenly. At that time Rangana was not even 20 years old. But by that time Rangana had completed his degree and had begun working as a Software Engineer. If not by today the whole family would have been in a precarious situation.

Later with the  help of a friend of his he joined PC House as a Software Engineer. While serving there, Rangana secured a job at Greenwich on June 01, 2011. Greenwich produces Software mainly for the international community. While there are about 130 members on roll in the staff there between 60 to 80 software engineers are employed there. He explained to us how he works with his brother engineers as follows:-
“It is not very long since I joined Greenwich. I am the youngest there currently.

Working as a Software Engineer

All of us work together with a great sense of co-operation. We have optimum freedom for doing so. While working it has never occurred to us that we are working in an office.  We get the feeling that we are still attending school.

At the young age of 20 years Rangana gets a handsome salary of more than Rs. 50,000/-. Some youths are unable even to think of obtaining a good salary even in their whole life. Today Rangana is at an important juncture in his journey since he found the right path necessary to improve in life. Similarly he has time at his disposal for improving further.  If one is to succeed in anything, action should be taken without delay. Rangana has been able to supersede other software engineers of the country because he had taken the correct path.

Rangana Uses Lenovo Lap Top
Every youth has dreams. One of such dreams is to own a Laptop. At least Rs. 60,000 is required for this. For many it is not possible to spend such an amount of own money at once. But Rangana bought a laptop out of the money he earned out of his own sweat and uses it now for his work.
Although Rangana leads a busy life as a Software Engineer, he prefers to lead life in a lighter vein. He joins picnics with his friends whenever possible. Nuwara Eliya is one of Rangana’s favourite destinations.

Rangana participated in a picnic with his friends to Nuwara Eliya even a few days ago because of his wish. The occupation he prefers next to meeting friends is play computer games. Similarly Rangana likes very much to play cricket during holidays. In addition he also attends a body building centre for maintaining good health. Rangana engages himself in all these activities while devoting much time in his employment. During the short time after securing employment Rangana earned many things required for his life.

Rangana was able to repair the black Corolla car and the red motor cycle that he had  bought before the demise of his father as make them like brand new vehicles. Rangana uses this car and the motor cycle for his travels. Similarly with the money earned Rangana has also bought a land for constructing a house. It is situated in Hanwella. Rangana’s next goal is to build a house there.

His newest project is  to create a hospital management system. Rangana has laid the foundation for a successful journey at the age of 20 years because he joined IJTS.

Rangana sees much specialty at IJTS.
“To put it in a nutshell the  direction of my future was determined by IJTS. There are many educational institutions in Sri Lanka for studying JAVA. But the distinctiveness I see at IJTS is that they teach us how to form our life.  No other institution does this. What IJTS does is not just completing the syllabus. IJTS shows us the way forward for us. That is the significance of IJTS. The knowledge that we have from books is sufficient for us to face an interview. But theoretical knowledge is not sufficient when we launch into the field in actual practice. What is required in such a situation is practical knowledge.  IJTS always works towards creating a student population that can work in the presence of another person without embarrassment or confusion and face any problem successfully. Similarly IJTS always tries to update the JAVA technology to suit the modern world. It is only then that we will be able to reach the new goals in the field of JAVA.
What does Rangana think about Sir Ishantha Siribaddana?
Sir Ishantha is a god. I am in this position today because of the knowledge Sir imparted to me. I was able to become a software engineer because of the confidence Sir created in my parents. Otherwise I, too, like other children would have done A/L and would be doing a job or would still be following a vocational education programme. But my fate changed because I came to IJTS. If today I have recognition as a software engineer, the honour should go to Sir Ishantha.

Rangana has even by now proved the myth that one should enter state university to become an engineer.
Having posed a challenge to  GCE A/L and entered IJTS Rangana has made a mark in society as a software engineer. As a software engineer he is today putting into practice the plans of his life one after the other. He gets a handsome salary for this.  He has time at his disposal for winning other challenges in life. Many  others too have the opportunity to enter the path to become a software engineer that Rangana took.  If there is another person who thinks of taking the successful journey by becoming a software engineer in the young age  like Rangana, you can learn the path to it from Rangana’s story.

වයස 20 ක් වන විට ස්වොත්සහයෙන් හොඳ රැකියාවක්, යානවාහන, ඉඩකඩම් ලබා සැපවත් දිවි පෙවතක් ගෙවන Rangana Minesh
